{"id":1676,"date":"2016-04-26T10:44:42","date_gmt":"2016-04-26T14:44:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.asapofanderson.org\/?p=1676"},"modified":"2016-04-26T10:44:42","modified_gmt":"2016-04-26T14:44:42","slug":"drug-collection-event-with-dea-and-local-law-enforcement-april-30th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asapofanderson.org\/es\/drug-collection-event-with-dea-and-local-law-enforcement-april-30th\/","title":{"rendered":"Drug Collection Event With DEA and Local Law Enforcement &#8211; April 30th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                        ASAP OF ANDERSON COUNTY IS TEAMING UP WTH LOACAL AND FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO TAKE UNWANTED PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS AT THE OAK RIDGE AND CLINTON POLICE DEPARTMENTS.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson County, TN \u2013 On April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Allies for Substance Abuse Prevention, the Oak Ridge Police Department, Clinton Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its 11th opportunity in six years to prevent pill misuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.  Bring your pills for disposal to the Oak Ridge Police Department at 200 S. Tulane Ave. or to the Clinton Police Department at 125 W. Broad St.  (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.)  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.<\/p>\n<p>Last September, Americans turned in 350 tons (over 702,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at more than 5,000 sites operated by the DEA and more than 3,800 of its state and local law enforcement partners.  Overall, in its 10 previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners have taken in over 5.5 million pounds\u2014more than 2,750 tons\u2014of pills.  <\/p>\n<p>This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue.  Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and misuse. Rates of prescription drug misuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.  Studies show that a majority of misused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
